Practical Application Of Prayer

Talking about prayer is one thing.  Practical application is another thing.  Here is a quick example of what I mean.  Over the next four weeks I will be teaching a Sunday School class on persevering through the tough times.  If you can't make it to the class, you can read the lesson and put the points to work in your prayer life.  Life is a series of trials and events that help us to grow in our faith and trust in God.  The points in this series are intended to help us grow spiritually while dealing with the curves life throws at us.  I encourage you to take the time to meditate on the main points of the lesson and grow closer to God as you review the Scripture.

Following is the introduction to the lesson.

Toughing It Out or Persevering in Hard Times
John Schaenzer

When the landmines of life are blowing up around me, can I really live out my faith?  Is it really possible for me to be thankful in ALL things?  Do I really mean it when I pray, "Thy will be done"?  Does religious teaching really apply in my situation?  Come explore these questions and more as we explore what the Bible teaches about going through hard times and how it applies to our current circumstances. I am no stranger to tough times and I can assure you that there is hope and practical life application for us. Our attitudes, our responses, our behavior and the purpose of our trials don't need to be a mystery. Let these four weeks transform our lives as we see how God is moving in them.

This will be a 4-week Sunday school class: February 8, 15, 22, March 1.

Thy will be done.  Do I truly trust God?
Sunday School, Cornerstone Church of Blaine
February 8, 2009

A class with titles about perseverance and hanging on in tough times could easily be a study on the book of Job.  What other Bible story tells of such a great suffering of an individual.  The unique thing about Job is that he didn't seem to do anything to cause the things he went through, unlike Jonah who openly resisted the will of God.  There are lessons to be learned from both of these men and both men's lives are worthy of study and examination.  This study will be dealing more in the big picture rather than doing in depth studies of individuals.  Each of the four segments will cover general areas that, when applied to our lives, will help us survive, and even grow, in the tough times of life.
